Antigua is the larger of the twin islands that comprise the Caribbean nation of Antigua and Barbuda. Christopher Columbus was the first European to reach Antigua in 1493. He named the island after a statue of the Virgin Mary called “La Virgen de La Antigua” which can be found in the cathedral of the Spanish city Seville.

English is the primary language spoken on the island however Antiguan Creole is also widely spoken. Understandably, Antigua’s tourism industry is thriving. With its beautiful beaches and accommodating atmosphere, Antigua is truly a Caribbean gem.
